THE QUEENSLAND under 21 women’s hockey team ruled the roost and proved they are the golden girls after they claimed top spot at the 2016 Women’s National Championships in Sydney.
And it were Gladstone’s contingent of Rhiannon Baxter, Elne Bezuidenhout, Hannah Lowry, Morgan Mathison and their team mates who played a critical role in Queensland’s 2-1 win against Western Australia in the final.
QLD were undefeated in the throughout the preliminary matches based on a tight defence that did not concede a goal in the tournament.
The gold medal win marks somewhat of domination from the girls raised in the Sunshine State.
QLD had previously brought home a gold medal in 2013, silver medal in 2014 and a bronze in 2015 in the competition.
Meanwhile, Queensland’s under 21 men came home with a bronze medal in the same tournament.
