Archie Tennant (Athletics)

Archie is 12 years old, and 10 months ago showed up to his school sports day at Toolooa High School, won his events and decided he liked to run and was good at it.

He competed at the Port Curtis trails in the 100m and 200m and was selected to go to the Capricornia trails in Mackay. However, due to covid, this was cancelled. This season Archie has joined the Gladstone Little Athletics club to gain more skills and for his enjoyment of running.

Not only has the club helped his development but he has found other events that he really enjoys. In February this year, he competed in Bundaberg at the Regional trials. Archie received a Gold Medal in 100m, 200m, Long Jump, Triple Jump and a Silver medal in Javelin, securing him a place at the State Titles, held in Brisbane in March. Here, Archie competed in his 4 chosen events and managed to get himself a Gold Medal in 100m, 200m, Long Jump and a Silver Medal in Triple Jump.

Archie was then selected to represent QLD in the Under 13’s State Team at Nationals, which was held in Melbourne, 23rd/24th April. Archie finished with a Silver Medal and PB in Long jump, a Bronze Medal and PB in Triple Jump, a Silver Medal in the 4 x 100m relay, a silver medal in the Medley, a PB and 5th overall in the 100m, and 9th overall in the 200m. He had such an amazing weekend and made some great new friendships and loved representing Gladstone and QLD.

Throughout the athletics season, Archie managed to break the long time holding record in Triple Jump and Long Jump, and broke them again on the weekend at Melbourne.

Archie is also a keen AFL player, who began playing for BIT’s last year. He ended up coming 3rd in the Best and Fairest and making it to the Capricornia trials that were held in Cairns. Quite an achievement for his first year.
