Gladstone’s Kolby Masters took part in the Australian Schools Boxing Championships 2024 during July, held in Perth.
There was seven fighters in Kolby’s division representing all Australian states except Tasmania. Kolby drew the three time Australian champion from Victoria straight up in the quarter finals and fought remarkably well. A close loss to the Victorian who had never lost a fight in Australia saw Kolby exit the tournament in the quarter finals.
Kolby was honored to wear the maroon and represent Qld at a national level and developed from the opportunity to train alongside some of the best athletes and coaches in Australia.
Kolby takes inspiration from his favourite sporting hero is Jeff Horn. He is from Qld and didn’t start boxing until late. He went to the 2012 Olympics with Billy Ward who was good friends with my brother and our family. Jeff went onto win a world title as a professional and fought some very tough opponents.
Kolby immediate goal is to compete and win my division at the Australian Golden Gloves Tournament being held in Brisbane at the end of August. Gladstone & District Sports Foundation Trust is happy that we could be part of your sports journey.
